Martinique and Guadalupe

Posted by

Hurricane season is quickly approaching so we have had to speed up our explorations. We plan to head back up the Caribbean Islands next fall and winter so we will be able to take a little more time at each island next year. But for now we just made short stops and Martinique and Guadalupe. Our first stop was Martinique. It is a French island and absolutely beautiful. It is a very modern island with freeways and an amazing public transportation system. Oh and it has wonderful French bakeries! We only had a few days to spend here but we were able to see much of the island. We went on a brutal but beautiful hike up a volcano and explored a small river before moving onto the next island.

Guadalupe is another French island in the Caribbean chain. We stopped for one night in front of a small town. We went on a hike up to a lookout and explored the town before leaving for the next island of Dominica. Next cruising season we will have time to thoroughly explore both of these amazing islands. Until then enjoy some of the pictures we took and Martinique and Guadalupe. Oh we also need a few months to brush up on our French.

Victoria cuddling with her dad!!!!!
Samadhi anchored off a small French Village. Tomorrow we will be hiking to the top of the volcano in the distance.
Ranger and I going ashore in the morning.
Up we go. It took the kids no time at all to catch the 20 somethings that started as we pulled into the parking lot.
Yeah, this hike as steep and the grade was relentless.
And I mean relentless!!!!!
Yes, those are clouds that we hiked into, from essentially sea level!
And it keeps going up!!!! Who comes up with these ideas for things to do!?!?!?
We are near the top now and he doesn’t even look tired!
The summit is in view!
This is the path along the side of the caldera. The crater is to the right but it is covered by clouds.
The crater is full of clouds but at least the trail around it is relatively flat.
Back down we go.
Martinique is an amazing place and we cannot wait to explore more!
We hiked up to a lookout of the bay on the island of Guadalupe with a large group of cruising families.
Ranger and I went for an early walk around the small village on Guadalupe.
The view of the bay from town.
It is such a beautiful little town.
As we wondered around the town slowly began to come to life.
The best part of the town waking up was that I was first in line at the French bakery!
Ranger does not get to partake in the French cuisine so he is always anxious to get back to the boat. Here he is waiting for me to finish my chocolate croissant.
